Learn this Simple System that will allow you to Decipher, Resize and Redraw hundreds of Geometric Patterns without having any special skills in Geometry |
This introductory group is only £40 / $47 and this will increase to £82 / $97 after this group
When I started my journey in this craft over 20 years ago I really wanted to know not just how to make copies of Roman mosaics but I wanted to understand how they put together the patterns. At first, I just had to copy them exactly as they were but, when I tried to enlarge them or change their size it never worked.
I looked at the very few books on it and they were really hard-core geometry and as hard as I tried I just couldn't understand how to apply it to actual mosaic work. I even got a book titled 'Drawing Geometry' but I was having trouble even using a compass.
I just didn't think it should be that complicated though. I'd started to notice certain things, things that appeared in many of the geometric patterns. Once I began to notice how these would repeat then I realised I just needed to figure out how these were placed and then the rest of the pattern almost builds itself around them. That was it, once I got that I was looking at those same things every single time. I learned how to look, this then told me what to do!
Today I know you just have to look at these certain things and it will allow you to 'build' the pattern exactly as you want it. The system I've built works on a set of principles you can apply for any pattern and the first of these is the 'strand' types, the most commonly used ones in ancient Greek and Roman mosaics.
Here's what you'll discover over the first five days;
The following 16 days (see below for why it's only this long)
Mosaics, how to apply these skills - this is where you get those small lessons that can make all the difference!
Q&A sessions, I'll be in the group every day to answer your questions.
Extra exercises for you to download and go through.
Why does the group end after three weeks?
Because to get the most out of this I need to know there is a limited time to get the work done. Once you have this way of looking at the patterns and work to the principles I give you then you shouldn't need anything else for the strand patterns.
What equipment do I need?
My guarantee
I want you to get some real, tangible skills from this but, if you don't feel that you have got what you wanted from this challenge then you have up to 30 days in which you can request a refund and there are no questions asked.
If you've got any questions then feel free to get in touch at romanmosaicworkshops@gmail.com

Recently I had a client who wanted a custom commission incorporating several Roman mosaic patterns. Since my training is not in the geometry of these specialized motifs, I went directly to the Master Lawrence Payne.
Lawrence saved me weeks of work trying to figure out and design these patterns on my own. He has spent years upon years studying these specialized techniques and actually designed the patterns specifically to the tesserae size I was using.
Though I haven’t yet found the time to study with him, I highly recommend taking advantage of his expertise gleaned from years of study, trial and error. Through his years of investment, he’s already made the mistakes and adjustments to these techniques for you and passes this directly on to you. He is the Master!

Taking part in one of Lawrence’s courses really lets you look deeply at mosaics and work out much more about the makers and the materials. Invaluable if you want to understand them I found.

‘I’d wanted to try Roman mosaics for years but was put off by the difficulties of obtaining the proper materials and finding a good teacher. Lawrence overcame both obstacles brilliantly. He is a talented and inspiring mosaic creator, who is determined to teach mosaic making the Roman way but also incredibly patient and helpful. All the pupil has to do is to show some keeness. He was willing to answer my endless questions by email. I thoroughly recommend his courses and am glad I found him before everyone else does!’

I so enjoyed working on the one I had tiles for. The instruction book in itself was worth the money I spent. I spent 200AU on a mosaic class and didn’t learn most of what was in that book.

Lawrence Payne, I just read your e-book about Roman Mosaics--I learned so much! I love the clarity of the explanations, drawings and images--it is a treasure! I'm so glad I signed up for your newsletter!

Who is Lawrence Payne?
Ever since I started this journey in 2002 I have been constantly looking for evidence of how those ancient mosaicists worked. I've gone over the mosaics and in making copies I feel I have a greater understanding of those craftsmen. Now I want to give you the chance to do this work for yourself.
Making small mosaics is no different from working on a full floor, you use the same method, the same outlook.
